The words matter. What you do next matters too.

In a difficult moment, coming up with a response can be hard work. This phrasebook gives you a starting point: what to say, what to do, and how to simplify when your child needs less language.

Make the next step clear.

Pair a short direction with something your child can see or do. A basket, an offered hand, or a familiar picture makes your words more useful.

Keep connection while holding a limit.

Find examples of accepting a feeling, stopping an unsafe action, and offering help. Comfort stays available while the boundary stays in place.

Have a way to begin again.

The repair page helps you take responsibility after shouting and choose a different next action. It gives you something concrete to return to after a hard moment.

An example from inside

When playtime has to end

The blocks are still becoming a city, and it is time to put on shoes. ‘Stop playing’ leaves your child with an ending, but little help beginning the next thing.

First these blocks in the basket. Then shoes on. I will help with the blocks.

Put it to use

Point to the basket, then the shoes. Give one small job and begin alongside your child. If that is too much, shorten the invitation and help with one block.

Why this helps

You have made the sequence visible and offered real help. Your child can still feel disappointed; the script gives you a clear way to support the transition.

Adapted from page 4. Each situation includes several ways to say it, including a shorter version.

How is this different from the Parent Guide?

Scripts is a quick reference for what to say and do in 13 everyday situations. The Parent Guide goes deeper into understanding readiness, planning with the school, and choosing support before and after the first day. Both stand alone; the complete bundle includes both.

Do I need to use the exact words?

No. Change them to fit your voice, home language, child, and situation. Gestures, pictures, signs, and communication devices belong in these exchanges too. No script guarantees a calm response or immediate cooperation.

What do I receive?

Two 20-page PDFs with the same content: a color edition and a matching low-ink edition, plus a Read Me. Read on screen or print selected US Letter pages. The contents and source links are clickable. No physical book is shipped.

Can I use this if my child does not attend Spark Academy?

Yes. These resources are for families everywhere, wherever your child attends preschool. You do not need to enroll at Spark Academy or follow a particular school curriculum.

Can an educator share these pages with families?

One purchase covers one household or one educator and their enrolled classroom families. You may print or privately share the PDFs with those families. Other educators need their own licenses. Do not resell, publicly post, or redistribute outside that group.
